Smoke Testing

When:

The Village of Plymouth has hired K.E. McCartney & Associates, Inc. to perform testing of the sanitary sewer lines and home sewer laterals during the weeks of APRIL 4th and APRIL 11, 2016.

This testing will be conducted by injecting "smoke" into the sanitary sewers from the mainline sewers located within the roadways and in back yards. The "smoke" is a non-toxic substance that is harmless to humans, pets, food, and material goods. The purpose of the test is to determine if storm water is entering the sanitary sewer system.

This smoke may be seen coming from roof vents, downspouts, building foundations, or manhole covers. If your house is properly connected to the sanitary sewer, the chance of smoke entering your house is unlikely.

To minimize the likelihood of smoke entering your house, please run water through all of your floor drains and sinks to ensure there is water in the trap.

Any presence of smoke within the house should be reported to the crews working in the area!

Locations where smoke is entering your house should be noted and repaired by the homeowner as soon as possible because this indicates locations where sewer gases are entering your home.

If smoke is seen in your home, simply open the windows until it is gone. If irritation is noticed, you should leave the premises until the smoke is cleared.

**PLEASE NOTE**This is a routine maintenance test. Please do not assume by the performance of this test the Village is conveying any issues with our storm or sanitary sewer systems. Any questions can be directed to the Administrator at (419) 687-4331.
